Mukhwas is native to the subcontinent of India. It is commonly used as a mouth freshener after meals. It is also used in the making of Paan, a fresh betel leaf that is often consumed as a digestive. Mukvas has a sweet taste which is contributed by sugar coating fennel seeds in either red or green colored sugar. Pumpkin seeds, and a nutmeg like seed called supari is also combined to the mixture adding a slight bitterness.
